VIASURE Real Time PCR Detection Kits

Description

VIASURE Rotavirus Real Time PCR Detection Kit is designed for specific identification and quantification of Rotavirus A in human stool samples from patients with signs and symptoms of gastrointestinal infection.

This test is intended for use as an aid in the diagnosis of Rotavirus A in humans in combination with clinical and epidemiological risk factors.

RNA is extracted from specimens, amplified using RT-amplification and detected using fluorescent reporter dye probes specific for Rotavirus A.

Information

Rotavirus is the most common cause of severe gastroenteritis in infants and young children under the age of 5 worldwide causing a total of 500,000 – 600,000 deaths annually.

The genus Rotavirus belongs to the family Reoviridae and seven groups divided to A–G have been identified. Rotavirus serogroups A–C are human pathogens, although Rotavirus A produces more than 90% of the infections. The main route of transmission is the faecal-oral route due to contamination of food, water or objects. Typical symptoms are vomiting, watery diarrhea and abdominal pain.

The genome of Rotavirus A, members of the Reoviridae family consists of 11 double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) segments which encode six viral structural proteins (VP1 to VP4, VP6 and VP7) and six non-structural proteins (NSP1 to NSP6). NSP3 gene, encoded by genomic segment 7, has been shown to be the best target for detection due to its highly conserved sequences along Rotavirus A.
