Norovirus GI

Norovirus GI is a highly contagious enteric virus associated with acute gastroenteritis. Infection may cause diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea, and abdominal pain, although some individuals may remain asymptomatic. Dehydration is one of the main complications, particularly in children, older adults, and immunocompromised individuals.

Transmission occurs mainly via the faecal–oral route, through the consumption of contaminated food or water, or by direct contact with infected people, contaminated surfaces, or virus-containing particles. Its high transmissibility and low infectious dose facilitate outbreaks in hospitals, schools, care homes, and other enclosed settings.
