S. Pneumoniae

Streptococcus pneumoniae is an encapsulated bacterium and one of the main pathogens associated with bacterial pneumonia. It can also cause meningitis, bacteraemia, and other respiratory infections, such as sinusitis and bronchitis. These infections are particularly relevant in children, older adults, and other vulnerable populations.

The polysaccharide capsule is one of its main virulence factors. More than 90 serotypes of S. pneumoniae have been identified, and their distribution may vary according to age, geographical region, disease severity, and antimicrobial resistance patterns. Its investigation is of interest in microbiological, epidemiological, and public health studies.

Certest CLIA S. pneumoniae Ag is an automated chemiluminescence immunoassay for the qualitative detection of Streptococcus pneumoniae antigen in human urine samples.

The product is intended exclusively for research use only (RUO) and must not be used for clinical diagnosis, disease prevention, or treatment.
