Autonomous integrated protection response for defense against biological threats through RNA vaccines
Recent conflicts and global pandemics have highlighted the vulnerability of Spain and Europe to biological threats, underscoring the need for sovereign technological capabilities that can ensure a rapid, effective, and strategic response.
RAPID VAC, a project led by Certest Biotec, is a collaborative initiative aimed at developing a national platform for the rapid design and manufacturing of RNA vaccines against emerging pathogens and biological threats.
This initiative is being carried out through a consortium of Spanish companies comprising Certest (project coordinator), Virnóstica, Nostrum Biodiscovery, Curapath, and Syngoi Technologies. The project is further supported by leading research institutions and universities, including the Carlos III Health Institute – National Centre for Microbiology, the University of Zaragoza, the University of Navarra, and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.
As a result, Spain will gain access to a sovereign, agile, and scalable technological platform for RNA vaccine development and manufacturing, strengthening its preparedness and response capabilities against future health threats, enhancing national security, and contributing to greater strategic autonomy in the healthcare sector.
Project MIG-20251046, funded by CDTI and supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
