Clostridium difficile Toxin A/B
Toxigenic strains of Clostridium difficile (CD) produce Toxin A and Toxin B, the main virulence factors responsible for intestinal damage and the clinical manifestations of infection. These can range from mild watery diarrhoea and abdominal pain to pseudomembranous colitis, toxic megacolon and, in severe cases, life-threatening complications.
C. difficile infection is of particular concern in healthcare settings and among vulnerable patients, including older adults, hospitalized individuals, patients receiving broad-spectrum antibiotics and immunocompromised patients. The detection of Toxin A and/or Toxin B in human stool samples supports the diagnosis of toxigenic C. difficile infection, particularly in patients with suspected antibiotic-associated diarrhoea or healthcare-associated gastrointestinal infection. Identifying the presence of these toxins may help guide appropriate clinical management and infection control measures.
CerTest CLIA Clostridium difficile Toxin A/B Ag detects Clostridium difficile Toxin A and Toxin B in human stool samples, providing a reliable aid in the diagnosis of toxigenic C. difficile infection.
