SALMONELLA TYPHI
Infection with Salmonella enterica serovar typhi (S. typhi), the causative agent of typhoid fever, is an acute systemic illness with a high proportion of illness and deaths, especially in developing countries. In Europe, S. typhi infections occur among travellers returning from disease-endemic areas.
S. typhi may be transmitted through contamination of drinking water by urine or feces from infected animals and humans.
Typhoid fever, also called "enteric fever," usually develops one to three weeks after exposure and varies in severity. Symptoms include high fever, weakness, lethargy, muscle pain, headache, loss of appetite and diarrhea or constipation. Pink spots appear on the chest; examination will usually reveal enlargement of the liver and spleen. In severe cases, symptoms of altered mental status and meningitis (fever, stiff neck, seizures) have been reported.
CerTest Salmonella typhi provides a rapid detection of Salmonella typhi directly from the stool samples.
The CerTest Salmonella typhi is a one step coloured chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of Salmonella typhi in stool samples to detect a possible infection caused by Salmonella typhi in humans.
